Tecumseh, despite being the youngest of the group he traveled with, had impressive leadership qualities and tactical prowess to match. He was appointed head of his Shawnee band of travelers after Cheeseekau was killed in an unsuccessful raid. In this new position, Tecumseh made acquaintances with men from the Creek tribes and formed an alliance with them. Thus began his work to unite the native tribes against the threat of ever-expanding pioneers. In August 1795, he rebuked the chiefs who agreed to sign away land to the settlers, claiming that the land belonged to all native men and that they had no right to sell what did not belong to them. This notion became the cornerstone of Tecumseh's political policies four years later when he stepped into the role of spokesperson for Native Americans during large council meetings in Ohio. His brilliant oratory skills impressed all present, and many compared him to the likes of Henry Clay and other great political leaders of the time. He studied treaties and fought for the rights of his people for a time, heavily encouraging them to discard the customs of the settlers around them and embrace their cultural heritage.
With the Leader Duty, Tecumseh will bring improvements to your Generals in both your Main and War Council Chambers.
